Medical affairs is involved in a variety of important decisions related to pharmacovigilance, health economics research and designing clinical trials among other functions. The value that medical affairs contributes within the medical community can be seen on a daily basis. Indeed, health care providers (HCPs) are increasingly relying more on the “medical arm” of the industry for education instead of the sales team. To fully understand the background and reason for this, it is important to provide a brief review of some historic industry milestones over the last decade.
